An editorial journey of tension.
EIGHT MILES OF BARBED WIRE accompanied an exhibition by artist Clay Ellis, whose work explored constructed forms, suspension and the physical tension of materials.
The catalogue translated those qualities into its structure. Embossed typography carrying the exhibition title wraps across the front and back covers like barbed wire, while the essays and supporting texts appear suspended within the centre of the book. Hanging typographic elements extend this visual language across the pages, echoing the tent-like structures found in the artist’s work.
Large-scale photographic details bring the viewer close to the surfaces, materials and construction of the pieces, allowing the work to be experienced with a sense of physical immediacy.
he exhibition was presented at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre.
